It's not an extended senior prank—ceiling tiles have been slowly disappearing around the school in preparation for the renovation work.

It’s been pretty obvious lately that RCHS is undergoing some changes. Some of you may ask some questions such as, “Why?” and more specifically, “Why do it while we are in school?”

I sat down with Mr. Messimer to find out what was going to be done, and when:

EN: Why are the changes happening?

JM: This school is going to become Rhea County Middle School after we move into the new high school. In order for that to happen though, some changes and renovations are going to be necessary to provide the best environment for the students.

EN: So why are these changing going on right now during school?

JM: We are scheduled to be going through some minor renovations for now. On May 30th, however, we are going to be going into full swing. We plan on doing the main academic building this summer and then the CTE building next summer.

EN: When are these renovations scheduled to be finished?

JM: We plan on having the main building finished with renovations by mid July this summer.

EN: What all will these renovations be affecting?

JM: We will have new flooring, energy efficient lights, new paint, and a sprinkler system.

EN: Will the classrooms be made to look similar to Mr. Austin’s room?

JM: Yes but, the flooring will be different depending on what Mr. Keylon selects.

EN: So I assume that Mr. Keylon will be the principal—have any other officials been chosen?

JM: No, we don’t have any other officials selected besides him.

EN: What schools will be attending this one after we leave for the new one?

JM: Currently, the plan is for Rhea Central’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will to move here once the new high school is completed.

EN: Renovations on the CTE building be done during the next school year or will it postponed until towards the end like this year?

JM: Renovations are scheduled to start at the beginning of May just like they did this year.
