RCHS Band takes second at Bradley contest
On October 10, the Rhea County High School Marching Band went to Bradley Central High School to participate in the annual Bradley Classic Marching Band Competition.
At the competition, numerous bands from the area come and compete with their marching shows. This year however, the contest was taken inside, allegedly due to poor weather conditions. Because of this, bands were unable to march, and only the music portions of their shows were judged.
The RCHS Band played the songs “Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In”, “Joy To The World”, and “Turn, Turn, Turn”, from their halftime show and was judged on musicality, while the color guard performed their routine to the songs and was judged on performence. The band as a whole was judged on overall performance. These scores were put together for an overall total.
At the award ceremony, the bands from all classes were given awards and totals. The Rhea County Band recieved a total of 79.5, that landed them in second place. Centennial High School of Cleveland, Mississippi pulled away with first, and had a total of 81.
Rhea County placed in the top four bands for all catagories except one. While the RCHS color guard was in the top three guards of the day. It was a great accomplishment for the band and guard, and we wish them luck with the rest of their year.
