Lovedrug’s “Sucker Punch” may catch fans off-guard
Mon Apr 13, 2009—
The alternative/grunge outfit known as Lovedrug released their latest album, entitled The Sucker Punch Show on October 28, 2008. The album ranges from distortion-driven noise-rock to dark, melancholy piano drones. These songs are complemented by lyrical topics that range from anger at selfish suck-ups to a dark fairy tale almost reminescent of the movie The Village.
Lovedrug’s first album was practically filled with “emo-esque” piano ballads about complicated love-lives and tragedy. Their previous endeavor, entitled Everything Starts Where It Ends, broadened the spectrum, with one or two songs almost being deemed “radio-friendly”. Although all of their albums have had a few happy songs, the prevailing theme of The Sucker Punch Show seems to be angst and anger, while earlier albums were more sad than mad. Nevertheless, the album is a nice departure from the norm, with plenty of songs to “rock out” to while speeding down the interstate.
