For every item checked out from our library, many teachers (as well as the librarians) are donating one penny. Mrs. Fisher’s idea started out that she, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Austin would be the only one’s to donate. She then decided to challenge the other teachers. With a response from many, our school is well on its way to making a large donation. This project began Tuesday (February 2) and is going on until Monday (February 8). Check out some books and help out Haiti!

On November 4, the English department was delighted to hear that Rhea County High School received an A in writing on the TDOE Report Card. This score has been a work in progress with a 3.8 in 2007 and a 3.9 in 2008. In addition to getting an A in writing, the school has continued to beat expectations in Science (Biology II), English (English II), and US History, while staying near predicted scores in Math and English I.
The TDOE Report Card is given to the school by the test, and it is based on test scores. Receiving an A in writing means that Rhea County High School improved and met a a state goal. Since Halloween falls on a Saturday, there will be two night of festivities. On Friday, October 30, there will be booths, sidewalk sales, pony rides, a children’s train, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, and Scary-oke. The streets will close at noon and the fun will last until ten that night.

As you walk through the RCHS library and see all of those books what do you think? How about, “I would like to read one those but don’t know where to look or start”? That reason is why we created this column, The Librarians’ “Shout-Out”—being in the library all day, the librarians must know a thing or two about which books are just decent or even amazing.
